Yi Dynasty Korea 19th Century Diameter 11.2 cm
Korean Yi dynasty ceramics have moved the hearts of many collectors, the most famous probably being Yanagi Soetsu, the founder of the Mingeikan Museum. Yanagi felt a warmth and approachability in them lacking in aristocratic Chinese wares, as most Yi dynasty wares were actually peasant crockery. These ceramics lacked pretension and had a relaxed harmony -- a humble character.
